Aalingana Project
Project Aalingana
Aalingana commits to embedding sustainability into business strategy by focusing on three interconnected pillars
DRIVING NET-ZERO
Driving the decarbonisation of our businesses and value chain
2030 : 25% reduction in absolute carbon emissions. From 2020 baseline (Scope 1 & 2);
Tata Steel India to reduce emissions intensity by 28-30% from 2020 baseline
2045 : Net zero emissions across the group Scope 1 & 2 across companies; scope 3 for JLR, TML, TCS, TCPL
PIONEERING CIRCULAR ECONOMIES
Applying a systemic, circular economy approach to reduce resource use and waste
2025 : More than double the content of renewable or recycled resources in products.Over 2020 baseline
2030 : Replenish freshwater & zero waste to landfill Freshwater target for India operations only
2040 : Replenish more freshwater than consumed
PRESERVING NATURE & BIODIVERSITY
One set of rights cannot be enjoyed fully without the other and the denial of one right invariably impedes enjoyment of other rights
2024 : Action plans for net positive impact
2025 : Invest in Nature-Based Solutions projects in India
2030 : Group is an NBS leader and has supported NBS market in India
1 . Driving Net Zero
1.CO2 emission intensity – FY30 Projection vs. Base Year

*- Overall CO2 emission intensity is reducing by 28%, but absolute emission reducing by 17%
(As 0.69 tCO2/tcs is benchmark as per WSA, and by achieving 0.48 tCO2/tcs, we will still be benchmark.
2 . Renewable energy share in total power mix
-Significant Growth Since FY24 Baseline: On-site renewable generation surged from 1,506 MWh (0.19% share) in FY24 to 12,049 MWh (1.55% share) in FY26, with an internal target to reach 5% by FY30.
-National Grid Baseline & Policy Direction: Clean energy currently accounts for ~20% of Thailand’s national grid mix (including imported hydro from Lao PDR), with a draft national target of 50% by 2037.
-FY30 Total Green Power Target: Combining TSTH’s 5% self-generation target with Thailand’s projected grid decarbonization, TSTH estimates its total green energy portfolio will reach ~35% by FY30.
2 . Circular Economy
1.Scrap Usage in Steelmaking: The utilization rate of steel scrap stands at 100% for FY26 and is planned to remain at 100% for FY30
2.Specific freshwater consumption and plan for achieving water neutrality by FY30
- Current intensity stands at 0.49〖” m” 〗^3 “/t” (FY26), with a plan to reduce consumption down to 0.40〖” m” 〗^3 “/t” by FY30.
- NTS site is already water neutral (utilizing an internal rainwater harvesting reservoir with zero river/municipal draw), while dedicated Capex and process optimization projects are underway at SCSC and SISCO to minimize freshwater intake.
- TSTH is committed to achieving Water Neutrality by FY30 (and Water Positivity by FY40) – Expert Study underway to identify enablers.
3.Zero waste to landfill
- In FY26 TSTH utilization is 99.86% from Total Waste Solid 100% (230,642 tons). Waste required for Landfill/Incineration was 0.14% (355 tons).
- FY27: Targeting and eliminating the biggest single contributor of residual waste: General and Food Garbage (170 Tons). Deploying enhanced segregation protocols directly at the source.
- FY28-30: Collaborating with specialized third-party recycling partners to divert Refractory (86 Tons) and Slag Dust (46 Tons) away from landfills into highway and concrete foundations.
3 . Preserving Nature & Biodiversity
1.Assess impact of operations on biodiversity
Biodiversity Management Plan: TSTH operates with zero reported critical biodiversity impact across its 3 manufacturing sites. We are currently executing a Biodiversity Impact Assessment in partnership . The outcomes will inform the formal deployment of site-specific Biodiversity Management Plans (BMPs) where applicable.
2.Nature-based solutions (NbS) projects
- TSTH is actively planning for reforestation & afforestation: Targeted planting of 3,000 trees across all operational sites in FY27. This includes adopting high-density Miyawaki forestation techniques to accelerate ecological restoration and boost local biodiversity.
- NbS Strategic Alignment: TSTH is collaborating with TSL’s Natural Capital & Business Integration team to screen and select projects that fully qualify as accredited NbS frameworks.
